How Is a Duct Cleaning Done?

Nobody wants to live in a dirty, dusty house, and there are numerous things that can make a house dusty. One of the most common causes are dirty ducts; this is especially true if the homeowner lives in an older home.

Even if the homeowner has invested in custom ductwork, they need to regularly maintain the ducts. Before calling an HVAC cleaner, the homeowner should take the time to learn about the cleaning process.

1. Thoroughly Inspect the Ducts
When cleaning ducts, the first step is to thoroughly inspect the system. This can be done with the naked eye, however, many HVAC cleaners will utilize probing cameras.

This useful tool allows the HVAC cleaner to get a look at hard-to-see areas in the system. A probing camera also allows the HVAC cleaner to inspect the system for any damage or leaks.

2. Negative Pressure
The next step in the duct cleaning process is creating negative pressure. To do this, the HVAC cleaner needs to connect a vacuum collection device to what is known as the air handler.

After this has been completed, the cleaner needs to seal all of the registers. Once this is done, the HVAC cleaner turns on the vacuum; this creates a negative pressure within the ducts.

3. Uncover the Registers Individually
After the HVAC cleaner creates negative pressure, they will then have to clean each register individually. To do so, they will remove the seal.

This gives the HVAC cleaner the ability to clean each duct. Remember, professional HVAC cleaners will use high-quality tools to efficiently clean the ducts.

4. Finish Off the Rest of the System
The final step of the HVAC cleaning process is cleaning the rest of the system. This includes aspects like the drain pan, blower motor, and the evaporator coil. Giving these features a good cleaning will ensure that the system will perform at its full potential for years to come.

Work was performed in a clean and timely manner. The furnace and metal work was performed by the Twintech team (did not require separate contractor to do the metal work). Energy audit was arranged and promised rebates were received. The overall price was very competitive. We have recommended Twintech to several of our friends and family. Awesome job.

Grant and Greg installed a heating and AC system in our new Linwood post and beam home. Post and beam can be challenging structures for running ductwork and their high ceilings and open concept frequently frustrate efforts at balancing air flow and controlling temperatures. But these guys did it and did it right the first time. Even the building inspector was impressed with what he saw. More importantly, the boys brought a high degree of trust and integrity to the job. Something in short supply these days.

I have used Twintech many times over the years. They always arrive quickly and get the issue fixed. The most recent incident was when my air conditioner broke last week I called Greg at 11:30am and he was at my home by 2:30pm he had the unit fixed by 3:30pm. Twintech are very reliable and honest and they are experts in the field. I have already recommended them to many of my friends. I would not use anyone but them for my heating and air conditioning issues.

Very impressed they arrive to quote even though I had forgotten to call them back to confirm date & time. They showed the day before installation to deliver the unit. Returned the next day as promised at 9am. Project was completed in a professional manner. They even fixed a few things that they noticed were not installed correctly, or to code by previous heating & air contractors we had at our residence before. Would recommend this company to everyone!

Greg removed old oil furnace and oil tank from basement relocated new Napoleon propane furnace to allow duct work to be rerouted to a much more suitable location. Moved air conditioner to the new furnace. Dave recommended two available grants to assist with cost. They kept to their original quoted price which was substantially lower than a competitors for the same furnace and work. They completed the work as stated when stated and left the area clean and tidy. We are very pleased with the outcome.
