Improving Your Air Quality this Winter

As the winter season progresses and the temperature tumbles we seal ourselves off in our toasty homes and do what we can to ignore the snow and the ice outside. However, with the shutting of windows comes the higher possibility of a worsening air quality that can be caused by appliances, chemicals, pets, and other sources. Here are some great ways to make sure your air stays clean.
Add Some Plants
Plants add oxygen to the air and can remove chemicals like benzene and formaldehyde, depending on the species. Palms like bamboo and areca are especially useful as are Rubber Plants, Peace Lilies, and Aloe Vera. Generally speaking, the most efficient placement is one plant per one hundred square feet of space.
Take Care of Your Pets
Our pets are family, so like us, they tend to spend a lot more time inside in winter. This means more dander and fur getting into your home’s air. Simply by bathing your pets regularly and washing the animal’s bedding in hot water weekly, you’ll be able to mitigate the damage done to air quality.
Let the Air In
We’ve had an unseasonably warm winter thus far but that’s no guarantee it will continue. Even the coldest winters will have the occasional day or two of respite from sub-zero temperatures. Take the opportunity to open up your windows and let some fresh air in to clear out unwanted particulates. It’s easy, free, and effective.
Get a Purifier
A portable air purifier can remove allergens, particles, and odours. It can be ideal for those with asthma, allergies, or other sensitivities. Air purifiers can be placed in any room as needed but generally cover about 600 sq. feet of living space.
Change or Upgrade Your Filters
Changing your furnace filter is a relatively easy way to get your air cleaner and it should be done relatively often to maximize its effectiveness. It may also be a good idea to upgrade your furnace air filter with a more effective model that can better clean the output.
Air quality is important at any time of year but especially when everything is closed up for winter. These tips will help make your air is as clean as it can be. Grant and Greg installed a heating and AC system in our new Linwood post and beam home. Post and beam can be challenging structures for running ductwork and their high ceilings and open concept frequently frustrate efforts at balancing air flow and controlling temperatures. But these guys did it and did it right the first time. Even the building inspector was impressed with what he saw. More importantly, the boys brought a high degree of trust and integrity to the job. I have used Twintech many times over the years. They always arrive quickly and get the issue fixed. The most recent incident was when my air conditioner broke last week I called Greg at 11:30am and he was at my home by 2:30pm he had the unit fixed by 3:30pm. Twintech are very reliable and honest and they are experts in the field. I have already recommended them to many of my friends. I would not use anyone but them for my heating and air conditioning issues.

I would highly recommend these guys, professional, fast and competitive pricing. I moved into this place with no working AC unit with a 8 month baby, he was able to come with in a week to fix even in the busy summer days. He really values his customers , I am already recommending to my neighbors.

Very impressed they arrive to quote even though I had forgotten to call them back to confirm date & time. They showed the day before installation to deliver the unit. Returned the next day as promised at 9am. Project was completed in a professional manner. They even fixed a few things that they noticed were not installed correctly, or to code by previous heating & air contractors we had at our residence before. Would recommend this company to everyone!

Greg removed old oil furnace and oil tank from basement relocated new Napoleon propane furnace to allow duct work to be rerouted to a much more suitable location. Moved air conditioner to the new furnace. Dave recommended two available grants to assist with cost. They kept to their original quoted price which was substantially lower than a competitors for the same furnace and work. They completed the work as stated when stated and left the area clean and tidy. We are very pleased with the outcome.
