How to Choose a Furnace?

Is your furnace nearing its end of life? If you answered yes, then it's time to start looking for a new one before it is too late.

When looking into replacing your heating unit, there are a few things to keep in mind when purchasing a furnace. And they are energy efficiency, size, furnace type, i.e., single-stage, two-stage, and modulating, the state of your ductwork, brand name, and, of course, pricing.

These things may seem like a lot to think of and maybe a bit confusing, but at Twintech, we are here to help make the decision-making process a little easier.

Let's start with the furnace's size; you want one that is right for the space you are heating. Larger homes require bigger units, approximately 50,000 to 65,000 British Thermal Units (BTUs), whereas smaller homes don't necessarily need large units to work effectively. They only need about 40,000 to 50,000 BTUs.

Of course, if you're unsure about the size you need, one of our experts will be more than happy to help you choose the right size for your home.

Energy efficiency is also essential as a high efficient furnace will help you save money in the long run.

The type of furnace also matters, single, two-stage and modulating. A single-stage furnace only has one setting, heat, and run at full capacity until the thermostat is off.

A two-stage has two settings, low and high, and you control them by can a two-stage thermostat. They are more energy-efficient than a single-stage furnace because they don't always have to run at full heat.

While modulating furnaces are the most energy-efficient between the three, they are also more costly. The heat from these types of furnaces gradually goes up, and because the ductwork remains warm, there is little heat that is lost.

If you plan to live in your home for many years to come, adding a modulating furnace may be a good investment.

Your ductwork is also essential to any furnace type as you always want to ensure that you are constantly checking for cracks. Cracks or damages to your ductwork mean that heat can escape, which can cause your furnace to work inefficiently.

If you suspect any issues with your ductwork, give Twintech a call, we will have one of our experts come to your home and do any necessary inspections.

The brand of furnace you choose can also be important. At Twintech, we carry the following Amana, Armstrong, Goodman, Keeprite, and Ruud. And if pricing worries you, we can help. We offer financing programs that can help you with any costs.

Our financing program starts at a low price of $36.33 a month, and that's not all. Some of our brands come with a limited, lifetime warranty.

Work was performed in a clean and timely manner. The furnace and metal work was performed by the Twintech team (did not require separate contractor to do the metal work). Energy audit was arranged and promised rebates were received. The overall price was very competitive. We have recommended Twintech to several of our friends and family. Awesome job.

Grant and Greg installed a heating and AC system in our new Linwood post and beam home. Post and beam can be challenging structures for running ductwork and their high ceilings and open concept frequently frustrate efforts at balancing air flow and controlling temperatures. But these guys did it and did it right the first time. Even the building inspector was impressed with what he saw. More importantly, the boys brought a high degree of trust and integrity to the job. Something in short supply these days.

I have used Twintech many times over the years. They always arrive quickly and get the issue fixed. The most recent incident was when my air conditioner broke last week I called Greg at 11:30am and he was at my home by 2:30pm he had the unit fixed by 3:30pm. Twintech are very reliable and honest and they are experts in the field. I have already recommended them to many of my friends. I would not use anyone but them for my heating and air conditioning issues.

Very impressed they arrive to quote even though I had forgotten to call them back to confirm date & time. They showed the day before installation to deliver the unit. Returned the next day as promised at 9am. Project was completed in a professional manner. They even fixed a few things that they noticed were not installed correctly, or to code by previous heating & air contractors we had at our residence before. Would recommend this company to everyone!

Greg removed old oil furnace and oil tank from basement relocated new Napoleon propane furnace to allow duct work to be rerouted to a much more suitable location. Moved air conditioner to the new furnace. Dave recommended two available grants to assist with cost. They kept to their original quoted price which was substantially lower than a competitors for the same furnace and work. They completed the work as stated when stated and left the area clean and tidy. We are very pleased with the outcome.
