Simple Air Conditioner Troubleshooting

Here's a simple troubleshooting guide for common air conditioner issues.

  1. Check Power Supply: Ensure that the air conditioner is receiving power. Check the circuit breaker or fuse box to see if a breaker has tripped or a fuse has blown. Reset the breaker or replace the fuse if necessary.

  2. Thermostat Settings: Verify that the thermostat is set to the desired temperature and mode (cooling mode). If the temperature setting is too high or the mode is set incorrectly, the air conditioner may not turn on or cool effectively.

  3. Clean or Replace Air Filters: Dirty or clogged air filters can restrict airflow and reduce the efficiency of the air conditioner. Remove and clean the filters, or replace them if they are damaged or excessively dirty.

  4. Inspect Air Vents: Ensure that all air vents are open and unobstructed. Blocked or closed vents can restrict airflow and reduce cooling performance.

  5. Check for Ice Buildup: If the air conditioner is not cooling properly, check for ice buildup on the evaporator coils or refrigerant lines. Ice buildup indicates a problem with airflow or refrigerant levels and may require professional attention.

  6. Inspect Outdoor Unit: Check the outdoor unit (condenser) for any obstructions or debris such as leaves, grass, or debris. Clear away any debris that may be blocking airflow to the unit.

  7. Clean Condenser Coils: Over time, dirt and debris can accumulate on the condenser coils, reducing their ability to dissipate heat. Use a soft brush or vacuum cleaner to gently clean the coils.

  8. Check Refrigerant Levels: Low refrigerant levels can result in reduced cooling capacity and inefficient operation. If you suspect a refrigerant leak or low levels, contact a qualified HVAC technician to inspect and recharge the system.

  9. Inspect Fan Motor: Ensure that the fan motor in the outdoor unit is operating properly. If the fan is not running or making unusual noises, it may indicate a problem with the motor or capacitor.

  10. Professional Service: If you are unable to identify or resolve the issue yourself, contact a qualified HVAC technician for further diagnosis and repair. Some air conditioner problems may require specialized tools or expertise to fix safely.

By following these simple troubleshooting steps, you may be able to identify and resolve common issues with your air conditioner. If the problem persists or if you are unsure about performing any troubleshooting steps, it's best to seek professional assistance to avoid causing further damage.

by John, Pickering on Twintech Heating and Cooling

I had a really great experience with these guys. The salesman Bob was clearly very knowledgeable about everything to do with heating and cooling a home, spent a lot of time with us going over the details of the job, never rushed us and came back after the install to make sure we were happy. The installation crew was excellent, they covered the floors all the way from outside down to the basement furnace room, kept the place clean, got the work done on time and we’re very friendly. I’ve got 15 years in the contracting/ construction industry and these guys are one of the most professional company’s I’ve dealt with. Great company!

by Debra Robertson on Twintech Heating and Cooling

Had great service and clean-up was good. Was happy with my salesman. They were very friendly and helpful. I needed a new furnace as our was over 20 years old. The furnace and air-conditioner work great and they are very quiet. I am very pleased with the service and product I received.

Reviews for Twintech were good, and they did not disappoint. After an initial visit to discuss the suitable AC unit for replacement, an installation date was available in just a couple of days, and everything was installed without a hitch. Highly recommended

My old water heater quit on me. I called TwinTech. In less than 4 days, I had my new water heater installed and the old one taken away. The whole process was quick, easy, pleasant, and well done. This is the third time I've dealt with TwinTech and I've been satisfied each time.

I had them replace my furnace last year. When it came time for the air conditioner this year, I did not hesitate to call Twintech again. I will also have them perform regular maintenance on them.

by Robert, Ajax on Twintech Heating and Cooling

We required a new HVAC replacement after running the old
system for 18 years.
Dave understood our requirements and gave us a quote that
covered all the necessary items.
Installation was fast and very tidy. Everything works as
it should. Our thanks to Greg, Mitch and others for their
excellent work. Recommend this family owned business to
anyone else, considering HVAC or other work.

by John Armstrong, Pickering on Twintech Heating and Cooling

I needed a new furnace and A/C to replace my 21 yr. old units, and went to the internet to view potential companies in May, I received 3 quotes,
and chose Twintech based on their salesman Dave who was very detailed and covered off everything on what Twintech was all about,
an extremely dedicated company with so many years of experience, and after reading the on line reviews I was sold on Twintech, who did not disappoint as the installation team were top notch with Greg leading,
I would highly recommend this company without any doubts, in my books they are first class all the way. Our new Amana furnace and A/C are working perfectly !
