American Standard is one of the most commonly used brands of air conditioner. But even the most respected brands can have issues from time to time. If you’re having trouble with your American Standard air conditioner, try these troubleshooting tips.
Issue 1: No Power:
If your air conditioner won’t turn on, make sure it’s getting power. It’s important to remember that your system may not work if the power is out. But if your home has power, check your circuit breakers and fuses and see if they need to be reset or replaced.
Issue 2: Not Cooling Properly:
If the unit isn’t cooling your home properly, the first thing you should do is make sure there aren’t any open windows anywhere in the home. An open window can seriously decrease the amount of cooling power your unit has. Next, make sure your thermostat has power, is set to cooling, not “off”, and is set to the right temperature.
Issue 3: Weak Airflow:
There are a few reasons your system might not be providing enough air flow. First, check your outdoor unit and remove anything obstructing it such as debris or leaves. Ensure any hedges or plants nearby are trimmed an appropriate distance (1’) away. Next, check all your filters to make sure they aren’t clogged with dirt and dust. If they are, replace them with new ones. If those don’t help, there may be a problem with the system’s blower. In that case, it’s best to get in touch with a professional.
Issue 4: Irregular Noises:
One cause of noisy ducts can be clogged filters, but if you’ve already changed them per the previous step the problem could be with the return vent. A strange noise (often high pitched) indicates that there isn’t enough air getting in the return vents. If you’ve removed any furniture or items from in front of the vent and you still hear a noise, contact an HVAC professional.

We are very happy to recommend this company to everyone. Our furnace broke down on Sunday morning. We phoned them and before noon Grant the owner showed up. He worked on the furnace for about a hour not wanting to give up to fix the problem. The furnace was 17 years old. I was the one talking about replacing it. End result was the next day it was all done. On the Sunday Bob came over with heaters to warm up the house. We decided to replace the water heater at the same time. TwinTech is an excellent and honest company! I called them for a second opinion after being told by another company that I needed to replace my furnace. Turns out this was not the case at all!
