Safety 101: Quality of Air Inside the Home
Have you ever felt that you are breathing in ‘stuffy’ air inside your own home? When poor ventilation becomes a problem in your home, you need to have it checked immediately.
In the past, residential ventilation was not a common concern because people felt that they were getting enough outdoor air just by opening their windows and by having air leaking through building walls.
If you are looking for other ways to improve the quality of air inside your home, then this article is for you!
#01. OPEN THE WINDOWS.
The quality of air indoors is typically several times poorer than the outdoor air. Everyday situations can degrade the quality of your indoor air. Pollution peaks can occur when you add a coat of paint on the walls, or you bring home a new piece of pressed-wood furniture. Indoor air can also be degraded by lack of cleaning. So what should you do? Open the windows for five to ten minutes. This can be done on an everyday basis.
#02. SMOKERS SHOULD DO IT OUTSIDE.
If anyone in your family smokes cigarettes, or if you have guests over who smoke, make sure they do it outside. The smoke you exhale after taking a drag contains more than 4,000 different chemicals. In reality, there is no risk-free level of exposure to second-hand smoking.
#03. KEEP YOUR HOME CLEAN AND TIDY.
Dust is always present – whether you are a neat freak or otherwise. You do not necessarily need to become fussy, but cleaning and tidying up your home is an effective action to improve the air quality indoors. Do not forget to use a doormat to prevent dirt from entering your home. You should also try mopping and vacuuming your floors at least once a week.
#04. REGULATE THE HUMIDITY.
It is best to keep humidity between 30% to 50%. By doing so, you will limit the growth of mold, as well as the presence of dust mites, that pollute the air. Some molds produce mycotoxins and allergens and they can have adverse health effects such as allergic reactions and asthma attacks. A study by the Institute of Medicine in 2004 found a link between exposure to mold indoors and upper respiratory tract symptoms in healthy people.
#05. MAINTAIN YOUR HVAC SYSTEM.
Having your HVAC system regularly maintained also helps in improving the air inside your home. Your air filters might need changing or replacing, your home’s insulation might need upgrading. Setup an appointment with our expert technicians today!

My Fiancé and I have relied on Twintech Heating and Cooling now for the better part of the last 10 years. In that time, Greg has installed a furnace, an air conditioner, and a heat-pump at our residence in Toronto. In each instance Greg and his team were a pleasure to deal with. They were courteous and professional throughout the whole process and the quality of their work is first rate. Our experiences have always been extremely positive and we have referred his services numerous times to our friends and family. Without hesitation, I would recommend Greg and TwinTech Heating and Cooling to anyone looking to service or replace their existing heat/AC equipment

TwinTech is an excellent and honest company! I called them for a second opinion after being told by another company that I needed to replace my furnace. Turns out this was not the case at all! I did not need a new furnace. TwinTech did not push to make an unnecessary sale and saved me from a huge expense. Bob and Mitch were extremely professional and above all honest! I definitely recommend TwinTech!
