Is Your Home Ready for Winter

Now that fall is here, it’s time to prepare your home for colder months. We want to help you lower your utility bills while protecting your investment. Great news, here are some things you can do yourself!
Reverse Your Ceiling Fans
If your ceiling fan comes with a reverse switch, use it to run the fan’s blades in the opposite direction after you turn on your heat. By doing so, the fan will produce an updraft and push heated air from the ceiling down into the room. This is helpful especially in rooms with high ceilings and it even allows you to turn down your thermostat by a degree or two for more energy savings.
Inspect Your Roof
Find time to inspect your roof and look for loose, damaged or missing shingles that may leak during winter’s storms or from melting snow. If you do find anything that needs repair, act on it immediately. Check for any breaks in the flashing seals around your chimneys and vent stacks, too.
Caulk Around Doors and Windows
If there are gaps between siding and door or window frames that are bigger than the width of a nickel, you need to reapply exterior caulk. The joints in door and window frames should be checked, too. Silicone caulk is best for exterior causes because it doesn’t shrink and it is impervious to the elements. You may also add weather stripping as needed around doors to make sure you cannot see any daylight from inside your home.
Clean Gutters
This is important because if your gutters are full of detritus, water may back up against the house and may damage roofing, siding, and wood trim. It may also cause leaks and ice dams. You should also look for any damaged or missing fascia boards and gutters and repair them.
Turn Off Your Exterior Faucets
Water in pipes that you failed to drain can freeze. This will cause pipes to burst as the ice expands. To avoid this from happening, you can start by disconnecting all garden hoses and draining the remaining water in the faucets. If you do not have frost-proof faucets, turn off the shut-off valve inside your home.
Tune Up Your Heating Systems
You can hire a professional who can inspect your heat pump or furnace to ensure that your system is clean and in good condition so it can achieve its efficiency. This inspection also measures any carbon-monoxide leakage. We here at Twintech Heating and Cooling can help you.

I first met Greg and Grant (The Twin Brothers from Twin Tech - yup -it's not just a cool company name) back in 2014 when our furnace broke down and they installed our Carrier Furnace and AC that we purchased through Sears. This may seem like a small thing to some but to my wife who was at home during this entire process it meant a stress free transition to the meal prep for the day. When I called home to ask about the install she commented that, "they left the place cleaner than it was when they arrived and they setup all the grills on top of the stove and in the oven... they didn't have to do all that -Wow!". I've even called on these guys to help swap out a leaky water valve. They are just so easy to reach and communicate with by phone, and they don't mind a text message to confirm the details. First thing, they actually showed up for a quote. Other big name companies in the area didn't even return my call , job was done as expected and new equipment is quiet and installed very clean and professional. Would highly recommend these guys.

Work was performed in a clean and timely manner. The furnace and metal work was performed by the Twintech team (did not require separate contractor to do the metal work). Energy audit was arranged and promised rebates were received. The overall price was very competitive. We have recommended Twintech to several of our friends and family. Awesome job.

Grant and Greg installed a heating and AC system in our new Linwood post and beam home. Post and beam can be challenging structures for running ductwork and their high ceilings and open concept frequently frustrate efforts at balancing air flow and controlling temperatures. But these guys did it and did it right the first time. Even the building inspector was impressed with what he saw. More importantly, the boys brought a high degree of trust and integrity to the job. Something in short supply these days.

I have used Twintech many times over the years. They always arrive quickly and get the issue fixed. The most recent incident was when my air conditioner broke last week I called Greg at 11:30am and he was at my home by 2:30pm he had the unit fixed by 3:30pm. Twintech are very reliable and honest and they are experts in the field. I have already recommended them to many of my friends. I would not use anyone but them for my heating and air conditioning issues.

I would highly recommend these guys, professional, fast and competitive pricing. I moved into this place with no working AC unit with a 8 month baby, he was able to come with in a week to fix even in the busy summer days. He really values his customers , I am already recommending to my neighbors.
