Home Improvements to Keep Everyone Warm This Winter
You cannot do anything about the chilly weather but what you can do is take steps to make your home more energy efficient. Homeowners should start with small tweaks before splurging on big home improvement projects.
The thing you need to concern yourself with is to keep the warm air in and the cold air out. To do that, there are several measures you can take to accomplish these goals.
Here are some winter home improvements you can make to save both money and energy:
Caulk your windows and doors, seal up holes and cracks.
Not only are you keeping out cold air by doing these, but you are also keeping out mice and other critters that might seek refuge during this time. You may also consider sealing around the heating ducts in your attic and basement. If necessary, replace or add weather stripping.
Cover holes around electrical outlets.
You can buy covers that are easily installed behind the plate. Put your hands down to feel around your outlets. If you feel that the area is a little cooler, then it means you are losing air through that outlet.
Put area rugs on wood and tile floors.
This makes it more comfortable to walk in bare feet and you are adding more insulation.
Install glass doors to close off fireplaces.
Those doors prevent cold air from coming down into your home and your warm air from escaping through the chimney. If you need to use your fireplace, make sure to close the flue after using it.
Cover your windows.
If you do not have storm windows, you can create your storm window with a window insulation kit. Inside the house, you may use insulated drapes, sheets or rugs.
Insulate your attic door.
You can buy covers for attic openings and staircases. They are typically easy to remove and install and they will help you reduce energy costs all-year around.
Reverse ceiling fans.
Run your fans counter clockwise to make it cooler during the summer months and reverse them to run clockwise to make them circulate the warm air back into the room.
Add insulation.
When adding insulation, do not just focus on the attic. Keep in mind crawl spaces, garages and basements. If you are doing any construction that opens up exterior walls, then that’s a good time to add insulation in the walls.
Replace outdated furnaces or heat pumps.
Newer units produce more heat but with less energy. If you buy a new furnace, make sure you get the proper size for your space.

It was a refreshing experience interacting with the Twintech team. From Bob, the sales consultant, who articulated in layman's terms all the options available and reasons for making any selection. This was done without the prevailing pressure tactics so commonplace today.
Before proceeding Mitch, the technician, at our request conducted a service check on our 30 yr old furnace. His report was positive indicating no urgency to replace it. Again no pressure tactics.
Three days after first meeting with Bob, the installation team of Greg and
Spencer completed the installation within the planned time frame.
A very professional, courteous and transparent team which delivered on their promise. I highly recommend Twintech.
Initial contact with sales resulted in an immediate response, which led to a timely installation. Both sales and installers were all very professional. I have no hesitation in recommending TWINTECH.

I had a really great experience with these guys. The salesman Bob was clearly very knowledgeable about everything to do with heating and cooling a home, spent a lot of time with us going over the details of the job, never rushed us and came back after the install to make sure we were happy. The installation crew was excellent, they covered the floors all the way from outside down to the basement furnace room, kept the place clean, got the work done on time and were very friendly. Ive got 15 years in the contracting/ construction industry and these guys are one of the most professional companys Ive dealt with. Great company!
