Our Freon on Our AC Was Completely Empty. Any Ideas?

I have a 13 plus year old Goodman 5 Ton unit, (10-12 SEER) that had a freon leak.
Tech came by yesterday and confirmed there was no pressure.
He ran a test today and pressurized the entire system with nitrogen at 175 PSI for 30min and observed a 1.
3 PSI drop.
He also performed the same test for the indoor section and saw no drop.
(We turned the HVAC breakers off for the entire time).
We noticed cracked paint in the filter drier canister in the outdoor HVAC unit, so he removed the paint cover and covered it with soapy bubbles.
Did not find any leaks.
Tech said this was a head scratcher.
He's been in this business for years and has never seen anything like this before.
Any ideas what this could be? At this point I don't want to replace the HVAC unit with a new one and have the freon leak out from an unseen area.

Answer:
Look for oil, where there oil there is the leak.
Check the compressor all over.

My old furnace had finally broken down for the last time when contacted twintech to have a new furnace installed They were prompt, knowledgeable and very reasonably priced. They did such a great job i tell all my friends and family about this company.
