Portable A/C question

Hello!.

My TURBRO 8000 BTU air conditioner is no longer cooling my room effectively.

My exhaust tube is about 8 feet long, but I don't think that's the main problem.

It was cooling my room effectively before, down to 74 when it was 85 outside and humid.

The unit still blows cool air, and I have better results when I put it on dehumidifier mode.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Question from user Ace888281 at AirConditioners at reddit.

Answer:

There are several possible reasons why your portable air conditioner is no longer cooling your room effectively.

Some of these reasons are: Dirty air filter: A dirty air filter can reduce the airflow and cause the unit to work harder to cool the room.

This can lead to poor cooling performance.

Check the air filter and clean or replace it if necessary.

Low refrigerant level: If the refrigerant level is low, the air conditioner may not be able to cool the room effectively.

This is typically a problem that requires professional repair.

Blockage in the exhaust hose: If the exhaust hose is blocked or has a kink, it can reduce the airflow and cause poor cooling performance.

Make sure the exhaust hose is free from any obstructions and is not bent or kinked.

Heat load in the room: If the room has a high heat load, such as from electronic devices or direct sunlight, the air conditioner may struggle to cool the room effectively.

Try reducing the heat load by turning off unnecessary electronics or closing curtains and blinds.

Ambient temperature and humidity: The air conditioner may struggle to cool the room effectively if the ambient temperature and humidity are very high.

This is because the unit has to work harder to remove the heat and moisture from the air.

Try using the air conditioner in a smaller, more enclosed space or consider adding a second unit to help cool the room.

Based on your description, it seems that your air conditioner is still blowing cool air and works better on dehumidifier mode, so it's possible that the problem is not with the refrigerant level.

You may want to check the air filter and exhaust hose first, as these are more easily accessible.

If the problem persists, it may be best to contact a professional for repair or further diagnosis.

I had them replace my furnace last year. When it came time for the air conditioner this year, I did not hesitate to call Twintech again. I will also have them perform regular maintenance on them.

We required a new HVAC replacement after running the old
system for 18 years.
Dave understood our requirements and gave us a quote that
covered all the necessary items.
Installation was fast and very tidy. Everything works as
it should. Our thanks to Greg, Mitch and others for their
excellent work. Recommend this family owned business to
anyone else, considering HVAC or other work.

I needed a new furnace and A/C to replace my 21 yr. old units, and went to the internet to view potential companies in May, I received 3 quotes,
and chose Twintech based on their salesman Dave who was very detailed and covered off everything on what Twintech was all about,
an extremely dedicated company with so many years of experience, and after reading the on line reviews I was sold on Twintech, who did not disappoint as the installation team were top notch with Greg leading,
I would highly recommend this company without any doubts, in my books they are first class all the way. Our new Amana furnace and A/C are working perfectly !

This review is late coming so my apologies to the amazing Twin Tech team! I contacted Dave at Twin Tech for a quote this past Feb (as I was collecting a few) and his recommendation was excellent. From the first meeting with Dave to the team installing the new furnace, not once did i feel uncomfortable . The team were extremely professional yet personable and clean and tidy. Decent companies still exist!
The new furnace just purrs and its just amazing the difference it has made!
(PS my sibling ended up getting a furnace from them as well)
