How to Improve the Air Quality in Your Home?

After a long day, you and your family want nothing more than to come home to a relaxing and comfortable environment. Whether that means being warm in the winter or cool in the summer! However, the temperature of your home is not the only way to increase comfort, the air quality is also an important aspect.
With the furnace or air conditioner running constantly throughout the year, there comes an increased risk of dust and other air particles building up in your home. These particles can increase your family’s chance of illness, especially to those who suffer from lung diseases.
Changing Air Filters
Changing the air filter will help improve the air quality in your home. A fiberglass filter should be changed every 30 days, while a pleated air filter can last from three to six months depending on how long your unit is on.
Not only will changing your filters to improve the air quality, but it will also improve the efficiency of your unit.
Make Your Home Smoke-Free
Changing air filters are not the only way to improve air quality. Making your home smoke-free is also effective. Ban all tobacco and other products in your home.
Control Humidity Levels
High humidity levels can cause mold to grow. The best way to tackle this issue is to control humidity levels. You can do this by fixing any leaks, damaged caulking or grout around your bathtubs, showers, and sinks. Check your pipes for condensation, and use an exhaust fan when you are showering. The fan should run for at least 30 minutes after a shower.
Using a de-humidifier in the summer will help remove any water in the air, be sure to empty the water when you’re not using it so that bacteria cannot grow.
When doing your laundry, make sure the water from your washing machine is draining properly. Seal the joints around the dryer duct with foil tape, and make sure the outside dryer vents are not blocked. When you can, hang your clothes out to dry.

When our old oil furnace finally broke down we decided it was time to finally convert to natural gas and finally install central air conditioning at the same time. I called Twintech Heating & Cooling after receiving a referral from a family member; came highly rated for being an honest, family-run business, who appreciates their customers. Dave was able to accommodate my hectic schedule and book a late evening appointment to walk through the specifics. Greg and Mitch arrived exactly on time a few days later, were very polite and friendly, and within a couple of hours had a new unit up and running. I also received a follow-up call to ensure we were happy with the Amana.
