How Does an AC Unit Normally Function?

An air conditioning (AC) unit works by extracting heat from inside a building and transferring it outside, thereby cooling the indoor air. Here's a basic rundown of how a typical AC unit functions:

Evaporation: The process begins with a fluid called refrigerant, typically a special type of coolant, circulating through the system. The refrigerant starts in a gaseous state.

Compression: The compressor, a crucial component, pressurizes the refrigerant gas. This compression increases its temperature significantly.

Condensation: The hot, pressurized gas travels to the condenser coils located outside the building. Here, the heat from the refrigerant is released into the outside air, causing the gas to condense into a high-pressure liquid.

Expansion Valve: The high-pressure liquid refrigerant moves through an expansion valve, which reduces its pressure and temperature as it enters the evaporator coils inside the building.

Evaporation and Cooling: In the evaporator coils, the low-pressure liquid refrigerant rapidly evaporates into a gas due to the lower pressure and temperature inside the building. This process absorbs heat from the indoor air, cooling it down.

Air Circulation: A fan blows indoor air over the cold evaporator coils, cooling the air before circulating it back into the building.

Cycle Repeats: The refrigerant, now in a gaseous state again, returns to the compressor to restart the cycle. This continuous process maintains a cool indoor environment.
This cycle repeats as long as the AC unit is running, maintaining the desired temperature inside the building. Modern AC systems often include additional features like programmable thermostats, air filters, and variable speed fans for increased efficiency and comfort.

We are very happy to recommend this company to everyone. Our furnace broke down on Sunday morning. We phoned them and before noon Grant the owner showed up. He worked on the furnace for about a hour not wanting to give up to fix the problem. The furnace was 17 years old. I was the one talking about replacing it. End result was the next day it was all done. On the Sunday Bob came over with heaters to warm up the house. We decided to replace the water heater at the same time. TwinTech is an excellent and honest company! I called them for a second opinion after being told by another company that I needed to replace my furnace. Turns out this was not the case at all! I did not need a new furnace. TwinTech did not push to make an unnecessary sale and saved me from a huge expense. Bob and Mitch were extremely professional and above all honest! I called Twin Tech when my air conditioning stopped working. Greg came over to diagnose the issue - the same day. He was able to diagnose the issue and resolve it quite quickly. Although it was a quick fix, Greg was very thorough in explaining the issue and provided great advice. Not to mention, I felt very comfortable having Greg in my home - which I consider very important when hiring a service provider. Twin Tech will be my go-to from now on. Thank you!!
