Water Heaters – Tankless or Traditional?

If you are looking for a new water heater, there is a great selection of options and varieties available to you. Water heaters are categorized into two main groups: traditional water heaters and tankless water heaters. Now if you don’t know much about water heaters, the process of choosing a unit can be confusing and overwhelming. But you shouldn’t just purchase the first water heater you see.

What Is the Difference?
Traditional water heaters heat and keep water in a big tank. Every time you take a shower, run a load of laundry, wash dishes, or any other task that uses water, you consume pre-heated water that comes from the tank. Your water source then refills the tank as you use the hot water, and the cycle just continues.
Tankless water heaters, which are also called on-demand or instantaneous water heaters simply heat water at the time of use, instead of storing heated water in a tank. What happens is that every time you turn on a hot water tap, cool water runs through the tankless water heater and then its heat source, whether it’s gas or electric instantly heats the water on demand.
So which one is actually better?
Just like with any other appliance or equipment, there are a lot of things to be considered before purchasing, including convenience, cost, and efficiency. Your decision should be based on your specific needs. Let’s take a look at those factors that you need to think about:
Convenience
In general, a tankless water heater is more convenient as it eliminates the risk of having a cold shower (if you’re the last to take one). Aside from that, tankless water heaters also save you space because there is no need to allot space for a tank. They are so compact that you can just mount them on a wall inside or outside your house to have on-demand hot water supply.
Cost
Tankless water heaters may be more expensive up front, but they can recoup that initial installation cost over the years of their use as you benefit from lower energy bills and a much longer lifespan. Traditional water heaters are still quite common perhaps because they are significantly less expensive when you buy them. However, many do not realize that they are more costly to operate.
Efficiency
Traditional water heaters make use of a lot of energy as a constant supply of heat is necessary to keep the stored water hot, whether or not you are using hot water. Tankless water heaters, on the other hand, only use energy when you use hot water, so they are definitely the more energy-efficient choice.
Tankless water heaters have the edge over traditional units. Should you, then, buy any tankless water heater? Not at all! During the summer, I previously hired TwinTech to replace my air conditioner when it failed. They did an excellent job so when I decided to proactively replace the furnace I contacted them. The furnace I had was 22 years old and showed signs of internal leakage. It still worked but rather than wait to have it fail in cold weather, I decided to purchase a higher efficiency model before it failed and take advantage of energy efficiency rebates. TwinTech offered very useful advice on the make and model of furnace to choose including high efficiency and variable speed motor. The price was reasonable, TwinTech arrived at the allotted time, installed the new furnace (including some re-routing of exhaust lines since the existing ones were too close to other vents), removed the old furnace, tested the installation and cleaned everything up. Overall, it was a good experience, they did a great job and the new furnace is working well.

I dont usually right reviews but when you receive service like this I felt it was a must. Honest and fair. I Have 4 children and on Xmas eve my furnace stopped working and a gentleman came out and got me up and running so at least we would have heat for the holidays. As promised he would replace my furnace early in the new year. The job was completed on time, great price for quality furnace and extremely clean and professional job. Would have never known anyone was in the house. Not a spec of dust or mess from lugging out an old rusty furnace. If you have any ac or heating concerns twintech is your only option. I was royally impressed with and Im sure you will be too.

This Company is terrific. No high pressure sales and they deliver exactly what they promise to deliver. The new furnace is great and we now get consistent temperatures throughout the house. The installers were great and very efficient and completed the work on schedule on the promised day. Everyone representing this company was very aware of their presence in our house and worked diligently to keep our home as uninterrupted and as clean as was humanly possible. We did not need to go around the house to clean up after they left, what a nice surprise. We have had follow up by the company to ensure everything is to our satisfaction. How unusual in today's environment. The impression left by Twintech is that they care about us and our home. This is so refreshing in today's high tech world. The entire process was prompt and professional, from the initial quote to the installation of the new furnace. The team installed the new furnace and removed the old one in approx. 4 hrs. The guys were very knowledgeable and gave me lots of information. I have used Twintech before for a new A/C installation and new I was in good hands.
