Honeywell Thermostat Question

Unfamiliar with hvac and would like to ask before doing anything.

It's gettin late so can't call anyone.

Have a standard Honeywell thermostat that typically does not use batteries to be powered.

Noticed it was shut off this evening.

I pulled it off and installed batteries to the unit without placing it back on the housing and the thermostat worked.

We have had a pretty significant amount of rain all day and the hvac has seemed to work normally all day.

Is it ok to place this back on the housing with the batteries in place, or would this cause problems? - since there is normally central wiring that powers it.

Any idea what could be wrong?

Answer:

It's unusual for a standard Honeywell thermostat to require batteries if it's wired to a central HVAC system, as they usually draw power from the HVAC system itself. However, if you found that installing batteries allowed the thermostat to work, it's possible that there may be an issue with the power supply from the HVAC system, or there may be a specific setting or configuration that requires batteries.

If your thermostat has been working with batteries, you can leave them in place while reattaching the thermostat to its housing. This should not cause any problems as long as the thermostat is functioning properly with the batteries.

However, it's important to determine why the thermostat is not receiving power from the HVAC system as it should. If this is a recent issue and you have had a significant amount of rain, it's possible that there may be a wiring or electrical issue that needs to be addressed. If you are not familiar with HVAC systems and thermostat installation, it's generally a good idea to consult a professional HVAC technician to diagnose and fix the issue to ensure your system operates safely and efficiently.

This review is late coming so my apologies to the amazing Twin Tech team! I contacted Dave at Twin Tech for a quote this past Feb (as I was collecting a few) and his recommendation was excellent. From the first meeting with Dave to the team installing the new furnace, not once did i feel uncomfortable . The team were extremely professional yet personable and clean and tidy. Decent companies still exist!
The new furnace just purrs and its just amazing the difference it has made!
(PS my sibling ended up getting a furnace from them as well)

Our old water tank was installed in 1997. Wasn't working as well as it should so we looked into a tankless as it is more efficient and a space saver! we had used Twintech in the past for a furnace cleaning and were satisfied with that so we decided to ask for a quote for the changeover. Gary arrived and provided the options and the quote fit within our budget so we decide to go with them after receiving a few alternative quotes from other companies. They did what the said would be done and it was completed within a reasonable time frame! Removal and cleanup of the old tank was seamless. We are now enjoying consistent and efficient Hot water! I recommend Twintech and would use them for future projects!

One of the most honest HVAC companies out there! Dave was very helpful and informative in helping us choose a new AC unit. While they weren’t the lowest quote, we went with them because we trusted Dave and he was the most honest guy out of the companies that quoted us.
Greg and his crew who installed the unit were very professional and did a great job. If I could do it over again I would choose Twintech again.
