Looking for advice from those who have a heat pump for their home

I'm getting quotes to replace my furnace and ac condenser.

I'm considering a heat pump but am worried that it will not heat and/or cool as well a furnace + condenser combo.

I know there will be utility cost savings and benefits to the environment but my main concern is performance with heating/cooling.

I live in an area where winters get as low as 40 degrees and summers as high as 102 degrees fahrenheit.

Those who have heat pumps, how do you feel they heat/cool? .

Any thoughts would be appreciated!.

Question from user hippohoitytoity at heatpumps at reddit.

Answer:

Heat pumps are designed to provide both heating and cooling, and they can be a great option for homes located in areas with moderate climates.

Heat pumps are generally most efficient in areas where temperatures do not drop below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, so your location may be a good fit for a heat pump system.

In terms of performance, a heat pump may not feel as warm to the touch as a traditional furnace, but it should still be able to maintain a comfortable temperature in your home.

Heat pumps work by extracting heat from the outdoor air and bringing it inside, so they can still provide warmth even when temperatures drop below freezing.

However, in extremely cold temperatures, a heat pump may need to work harder to keep up, and supplemental heating may be required.

Similarly, a heat pump can provide cooling during hot weather, and it operates in much the same way as an air conditioner condenser.

It uses refrigerant to absorb heat from inside your home and release it outside, which helps to cool your living space.

When it comes to utility cost savings, a heat pump can be more efficient than a traditional furnace and condenser combo, especially if you live in a moderate climate.

However, the exact savings will depend on a number of factors, including the size of your home, the efficiency of your heat pump system, and the cost of electricity in your area.

Overall, if you are looking for a system that can provide both heating and cooling, a heat pump may be a good option for you.

However, it is important to consider your specific needs and preferences, as well as the climate in your area, before making a decision.

Additionally, make sure to work with a reputable HVAC contractor who can help you choose the right system for your home and ensure that it is installed properly.

When our old oil furnace finally broke down we decided it was time to finally convert to natural gas and finally install central air conditioning at the same time. Knowing it was going to be a significant investment for us, we wanted to make the right choice. Twintech came highly recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed. From the first contact with the salesperson, until the final touches on the installation, we were so pleased with their service. Everyone from the company was so friendly, efficient and a pleasure to deal with. Best of all, the cost was very competitive. We would certainly recommend Twintech to anyone requiring HVAC work in their home.

During the hottest week in the summer our old A/C decided to call it quits. I called Twintech Heating & Cooling after receiving a referral from a family member; came highly rated for being an honest, family-run business, who appreciates their customers. Dave was able to accommodate my hectic schedule and book a late evening appointment to walk through the specifics. Greg and Mitch arrived exactly on time a few days later, were very polite and friendly, and within a couple of hours had a new unit up and running. I also received a follow-up call to ensure we were happy with the Amana.

Professionally done and took care to cover all entry floors to the house for the installers to remove the old furnace and install a new furnace.
I also made recommendations of the tankless water heater that we had installed and items to address. We did not know they also installed tankless water heaters.

by Bill, Pickering on Twintech Heating and Cooling

Price was not the cheapest nor the most expensive of my quotes. It's the quality of the installation that makes for a good AC system. The twins' knowledge & professionalism was evident in the small details:
Very clean work. Greg made sure that the refrigerant level & temperature were correct. They reinstall the insulation & vapor barrier around the wall. The outside electrical cords were secured to the wall. Proud to support this local company. Thank you.
