Simple Troubleshooting For Your Furnace

Here’s a straightforward guide for troubleshooting your furnace:
1. Check the Thermostat
Ensure your thermostat is set to “heat” and the temperature is higher than the current room temperature. If it's battery-operated, check the batteries as well.
2. Inspect the Furnace Switch
Locate the power switch, which often looks like a regular light switch near your furnace, and make sure it’s in the “on” position.
3. Check the Circuit Breaker
If the furnace isn’t turning on, check your home’s electrical panel for a tripped circuit breaker. Reset it if necessary.
4. Change the Air Filter
A clogged filter can restrict airflow, causing your furnace to overheat or not work efficiently. Replace it if it’s dirty or clogged.
5. Ensure Proper Airflow
Make sure that your air vents are open and not blocked by furniture or other items. Proper airflow is key to keeping your furnace running smoothly.
6. Inspect the Pilot Light or Ignition System
If your furnace uses a pilot light, ensure it’s lit. If you have an electronic ignition system, check the furnace manual for reset instructions.
7. Check for Gas Supply
Ensure the gas valve to the furnace is open. If you smell gas, turn off the furnace immediately and call a professional for assistance.
