Dealing with Uneven Home Cooling Concerns
If you live in a multi-story home and you notice uneven home cooling, you are not alone.
When you have invested in central air conditioning, you probably expected that the system would cool the entirety of your home. However, over time, there are factors including ductwork issues, dirty filters, and even system age that can reduce the central air conditioning system’s ability to cool every part of your house evenly.
Here are some simple ways on how you can address the problem of uneven home cooling:
Switch the Fan to “On”
Check your thermostat. The fan switch can be toggled from “auto” and “on”. There are modern thermostats with a few other fan control settings, too. If you have uneven cooling at home, try turning the switch to “on”. This way, the system’s fan stays on and circulates the air, helping to even out temperatures between floors. (Note, however, that depending on the kind of furnace blower that you have, running the fan will add a little to your electricity bill.)
Use Air Vents to Control Air
Check if you have dirty vents that are blocked. Your vents and registers contribute to uneven cooling if there’s furniture blocking them. This may also be the case if there are dirt and debris building up. You can try vacuuming them using an attachment to remove the debris.
Redirect air to some areas by partially closing some vents on the first floor. More air will redirect to the second floor and this will alleviate pressure build up in the system.
Check for Air Leaks in the Ducts
When there’s an air leak within the duct system, the air that should be for a specific destination bleeds off before it can even arrive. Holes, leaks, and tears in your ducts can make your central air system work harder to compensate for that missing air. Of course, that would lead to even more problems. If this is the case, call TwinTech Heating and Cooling immediately to inspect your ducts.
Add Attic Insulation
Your insulation in the attic both keeps the hot air outside from getting in and keeps your cool air in the house from escaping. Without the proper amount or good quality of insulation, it’s possible that you are not getting the full benefit of valuable cool air. Make sure that you have the proper amount of insulation in your attic.
Is Your AC System Delivering Even Cooling?

My Fiancé and I have relied on Twintech Heating and Cooling now for the better part of the last 10 years.
