HVAC Maintenance: Common Problems You Might Encounter
The battle against heat and humidity can be quite common during the warmer months. Some homeowners rely on their HVAC systems to keep them cool and comfortable, even on the hottest of days. This is why when HVAC systems break down, it is not always a bearable situation.
Here are several common HVAC problems that we should be aware of:
THERMOSTATS
Before checking for other problems in an HVAC system, check first the thermostat if it is turned on and set correctly. Thermostats control an HVAC system, so if it is not functioning correctly or if it is not turned on, then your AC unit won’t likely function well either.
REFRIGERANT
If your air conditioner unit is blowing air but not a cool one, then you may be low on refrigerant or there is a leak. One of the most commonly used refrigerants or coolants is Freon. If you own a unit that was manufactured prior to 2010 and is low on coolant or has a leak, then it can still qualify for a recharge (or more Freon) given that the unit is still functional outside the low coolant level. If it is not functional in addition to the low leak, then it has to be replaced with a newer unit made after 2010. Newer models now use a different type of Freon called R410a.
Only licensed technicians are allowed to purchase Freon so if you need professional HVAC assistance, then we are the right experts to call.
POOR HVAC MAINTENANCE
Poor maintenance is one of the leading causes of system malfunction or worse, system failure. Regular upkeep e.g. air filter replacement is necessary. Air filters catch dirt and allow clean air to pass through the system. It is important that you check and replace your air filters regularly – or else they can become blocked. When air is blocked, expect your HVAC system to perform poorly. It can also result in a frozen system, as cool air is unable to be distributed throughout the unit. Ideally, air filters should be changed every 1 to 3 months, depending on usage. The more you run the AC or you have the fan on, then the sooner your filters should be replaced.
ELECTRICAL FAILURES
When HVAC systems are turned on and off on a frequent basis, you will most likely experience electrical component failure. An AC unit has three components: compressor, condenser, and blower motor. These components disable or enable the heating and cooling functions when an HVAC system is turned on or off. The constant switching between on and off causes the components to wear out faster.
I returned from vacation to find my AC unit on the Fritz. After calling way too many places I connected with TwinTech. Ive used the company in the past for my furnace so I was happy when I recognized Greg at my front door. Hes great and the service is always top notch. Id highly recommend using twintech for honest, superior service in the Durham region. Thanks!
I called Twin Tech when my air conditioning stopped working. Greg came over to diagnose the issue - the same day. He was able to diagnose the issue and resolve it quite quickly. Although it was a quick fix, Greg was very thorough in explaining the issue and provided great advice. Not to mention, I felt very comfortable having Greg in my home - which I consider very important when hiring a service provider. Twin Tech will be my go-to from now on. Thank you!!

I decided that the noises and age of the existing furnace which was old and not very efficient to replace it. Gave Greg a call and Grant and Greg got to work on it. Because of supply issues with the current heating type that would be an easier install Greg convinced me to change the location of the system and it would provide me better service for heat and efficiency. I had skeptical but went ahead anyway putting trust in Greg And Grant. Greg, Grant and Mitch came through and in 2 days had completely relocated my heating and A/C system. I can honestly say Greg was right my old house has been warmer and more evenly heated as it ever was. For anyone reading this rather long winded review can take my word for it, Twin Tech can take care of your needs.
