Improving Your Air Quality this Winter

As the winter season progresses and the temperature tumbles we seal ourselves off in our toasty homes and do what we can to ignore the snow and the ice outside. However, with the shutting of windows comes the higher possibility of a worsening air quality that can be caused by appliances, chemicals, pets, and other sources. Here are some great ways to make sure your air stays clean.
Add Some Plants
Plants add oxygen to the air and can remove chemicals like benzene and formaldehyde, depending on the species. Palms like bamboo and areca are especially useful as are Rubber Plants, Peace Lilies, and Aloe Vera. Generally speaking, the most efficient placement is one plant per one hundred square feet of space.
Take Care of Your Pets
Our pets are family, so like us, they tend to spend a lot more time inside in winter. This means more dander and fur getting into your home’s air. Simply by bathing your pets regularly and washing the animal’s bedding in hot water weekly, you’ll be able to mitigate the damage done to air quality.
Let the Air In
We’ve had an unseasonably warm winter thus far but that’s no guarantee it will continue. Even the coldest winters will have the occasional day or two of respite from sub-zero temperatures. Take the opportunity to open up your windows and let some fresh air in to clear out unwanted particulates. It’s easy, free, and effective.
Get a Purifier
A portable air purifier can remove allergens, particles, and odours. It can be ideal for those with asthma, allergies, or other sensitivities. Air purifiers can be placed in any room as needed but generally cover about 600 sq. feet of living space.
Change or Upgrade Your Filters
Changing your furnace filter is a relatively easy way to get your air cleaner and it should be done relatively often to maximize its effectiveness. It may also be a good idea to upgrade your furnace air filter with a more effective model that can better clean the output.
Air quality is important at any time of year but especially when everything is closed up for winter. These tips will help make your air is as clean as it can be. We are very happy to recommend this company to everyone. Our furnace broke down on Sunday morning. We phoned them and before noon Grant the owner showed up. He worked on the furnace for about a hour not wanting to give up to fix the problem. The furnace was 17 years old. I was the one talking about replacing it. End result was the next day it was all done. On the Sunday Bob came over with heaters to warm up the house. We decided to replace the water heater at the same time. TwinTech is an excellent and honest company! I called them for a second opinion after being told by another company that I needed to replace my furnace. Turns out this was not the case at all! I did not need a new furnace. TwinTech did not push to make an unnecessary sale and saved me from a huge expense. Bob and Mitch were extremely professional and above all honest! I called Twin Tech when my air conditioning stopped working. Greg came over to diagnose the issue - the same day. He was able to diagnose the issue and resolve it quite quickly. Although it was a quick fix, Greg was very thorough in explaining the issue and provided great advice.
